History at a Glance
The company from its foundation in November 1995 until today has based its business strategy in following the technological developments in the Greek publishing sector and the identified need of the Greek reading audience for ongoing high quality and updated information, celebrity news and entertainment. Some of the most important turning points that played a vital role in Imako’s growth were the following:
- November 1995 marked the beginning of the publishing activity with the first monthly lifestyle magazine called “Nitro” which stands for “Never in the Right Order”. Despite the competition the magazine was enthusiastically received by the Greek audience and achieved an unprecedented success.
- In December 1995, in order to cover the needs of the reading audience for a weekly lifestyle magazine, the company came up with a unique and pioneering concept of a magazine called “Down Town”. Celebrity news and a complete Town guide, in a single magazine.
- During 1996 and 1997 Imako published a monthly sports magazine called “Active & Car by Nitro” and a magazine called “Big”, both targeted mainly at the male audience.
- In March 1998, Imako founded a new pre-press company with state-of-the-art technological equipment, called Iko Press S.A.
- In November 1998, the high readership of Nitro urged Imako to launch a woman’s magazine called “Lipstick” which was distributed along with Nitro, 9 times a year.
- In February 1999 Imako participates with a 5% percentage in the share capital of the Press Distribution Agency, “Argos”.
- In July 1999, a new monthly magazine called Pink, was launched, targeting at young women aged 13-18. It was re-launched in 2001 as Pink Woman and targeted women at the age of 17-25.
- In September 1999, Imako participates with 9,7% in the share capital of the packaging company Alimonos-Nikolaou S.A.
- In March 2000, “P Ekdotiki” book publishing company is founded, a new company for book publishing. Imako participates in the new company initially with 70% percentage while in November of 2005 it acquired full ownership.
- In April 2000, Imako acquired 65% of Colour Unit, a company specializing in colour processing.
- In July 2000, Imako acquires its own property and buildings.
- In October 2000, “Lipstick” is distributed autonomously, with great success.
- In December 2000, Imako buys 100% of “Hxo S.A” ownership of Nitro Radio.
- In June 2001, Imako announces the agreement with Hearst Communications Inc. for the publication of “Esquire” in Greece in 2002, which replaced “Big” magazine.
- Since February 2002 Imako participates with 5% percentage in the printing company “Alpha Press”.
- In July 2002 the first “Golden List Greek Hotels & Villas” Special Edition is launched.
- In November 2003 Imako came to an agreement with TIME INC, for the launch of In Style in Greece, which replaced “Lipstick” magazine..
- In May 2005 “Maxim”, the international title, is launched in the Greek market under license, from Imako and Dennis Publishing Ltd.
- In November 2005 “Real Simple” is launched in the Greek market from Imako and Time Inc.
- In November 2005 “OK” is launched in the Greek market from Imako and Northern & Sell North America Ltd.
- In 2006, Imako, in cooperation with Turkish publisher Vatan Degi Grubu A.A., found a new company in Turkey under the trading name Vatan-Imako.
- In January, 2006, the new Cyprus edition of “Pink Woman” was launched.
- In May 2006 “TopGear” is launched in the Greek market from Imako and BBC UK.
- In May 2006, Vatan-Imako, in cooperation with Time Inc. Launched In Style in Turkey.
- In October 2006, the Cyprus edition of “Down Town” was launched.
- In July 2007, Imako in cooperation with Time Inc, published the yearly edition of “Fortune 500”.
- In September 2007, Vatan-Imako, in cooperation with Time Inc. published “Fortune 100” in Turkey.
